UCN Catch Reports

Dave Wood

April 2007, Linear Fisheries Gaunts Lake I had arranged to fish 5 nights over a long weekend this was my first visit to the lake this year and not being local I decided to have a good walk round and talk to as many people as possible The general opinion was that it wasn't fishing too well with a few fish were coming out here and there, the pegs I wanted to fish were all taken so I had to set up in another area which I did know quite well and with the forecast of south westerlies which would suit the peg my confidence was quite high The first night I didn't bait too heavy about a kilo over 3 rods, I just wanted to get a feel for what was happening however during the night I had 2 carp the same thing happened the next night and with the wind starting to pick up and change direction I decided to let the fish really have some bait I took a gamble and put around 5 kilos of bait on a spot the night passed by without a take I thought I had made a mistake when out of the blue one of the rods over the bait rattled off my first take in daylight. I kept topping the baited area up and over the next 3 nights the action just got better and better with me actually having 6 runs on my final day the last fish coming with just my rods left out im sure if I could have stayed longer I would have had some more fish I ended up getting a total of 18 runs losing one to a hook pull and landing 17 the fish I actually caught during the session were: commons of 24.6 and 24.12 mirrors of 12lb 17.6, 19.6, 19.8, 20.10, 21.4, 21.6, 21.9, 22.4, 22.12, 23.4, 23.12, 25.8, 29.8, and 35.10 it was another great session and im convinced that the bait is just getting better and better the more the fish see of it ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first session on linears gaunts lake using the enzyme which was 6 nights over the august bank holiday which was 15 runs lost 2 fish and landed 13 which were: commons of 19.8, 21.8, 21.12, 31.8 and mirrors of 10.6, 12.10, 15.6, 18.2, 18.12, 22.6, 30.12, 31.2, 32.14 the 31.8 common is a UK PB common. During this period on the lake i caught more than the rest of the lake put together My second session in mid September which was also 6 nights produced 9 runs which resulted in a common of 16.6 and mirrors of 14.8, 17.6, 25.8, 25.12, 27.4, 28.6, 32.4, 37.10 the 37.10 mirror is my UK PB mirror My 3rd session was at the end of October, in four nights I had 7 runs landing 6 which were: a common of 20.8 and mirrors of 12lb 12.12, 16.10, 18.10, 20.4 during this session most people blanked all of my sessions have included the busy weekends which sees the lake being packed out and generally only a couple of fish come out during these busy times I fished the lake a couple of times last season using other baits and did catch but struggled to compete with the locals and the amount of bait they were putting in this season the Enzyme has outfished all the established baits Dave Wood
